As a recent Teesside University graduate I feel incredibly lucky to be working with Susan at artXchange. The first few months after graduation can be daunting- applying for jobs, attending interviews and hoping that you will be fortunate enough to land a position somewhere that you really believe in.
As such, when the opportunity to intern at artXchange arose I could not contain my excitement! ArtXchange is something truly unique and fresh to the North East- an opportunity to make art accessible to all and help business re-vamp and personalise their work spaces- all while giving back to the local community.
Art gives us so much- it's cathartic and it helps us to connect to one another. ArtXchange is about using art to make those connections- to make businesses more appealing to both their customers and their employees for a low cost, and to afford businesses the opportunity to buy into a scheme that benefits not only them, but also a local charity. Having artwork on the walls also lends to the mental wellbeing of employees, giving them something to focus on and enjoy at break and lunch times- something that takes them away from a desk top screen.
This is the first week of my internship and it has been brilliant- lots of fresh ideas to build upon and possible directions to explore. Over the course of the next three months I'd like to put into practice all of the theories I have studied and hone in on my skills working with data.
It's set to be an exciting journey!
